We had absolutely brilliant weather for Discovery Time last week - it was glorious to spend some time in the sunshine!

Otakaro Discovery Time on PhotoPeach

Sophia: I like discovery time because I like painting.  I painted a princess.

Joel:  I like building.  It is fun.  I like what I built.  I made a laser.

Eita:  I like fairy bread.  It was so so so yum.  I like eating it.

Makylah:  I like discovery time.  I like skipping.  I can skip for a long time.  I was skipping with Rose.

Oliver:  I played on the iPads.  It was a game.  I liked the game on the Ipad.
Some of you may have already seen posters around the school (and in the Newsletter) about our tea towels.  Each child has drawn a picture of themselves and will be printed onto the Otakaro Tea Towel.  Only $8 - great gift idea!  How many will you purchase?
Make your orders at the school office.

Pirate Day on Black Friday!

It was absolutely brilliant to be back in the classroom today, and to celebrate my return we dressed up as pirates!
Are we scary?
During the day we wrote stories about what pirates do, made P for Pirate pictures, and we made our very own I-Spy Treasure Bottles (everyone took these home today).  What a fun day!

Everyone in Room 12 are very keen to learn!  In fact we don't even wait for the bell to ring....we start learning when we enter the classroom.  I love how the children find activities to do straight away.

Room 12 have started to use www.ictgames.com to help their learning.  This site has numeracy AND literacy activities.
Here are some boys using the site to learn about word chunks and sounds - before the bell rings!
A big welcome to Harlow who had his very first visit today.

Using electrical energy

This afternoon Room 12 made pikelets using electrical energy - yum yum!

We discovered that electrical energy makes the beaters turn around!

We also discovered that electrical energy is needed to make heat.

On Thursday we are making pikelets again, but without any electrical energy!
How are we going to do that?

Here are some ideas already:
Oliver said we would use a spoon to mix, or one of Mrs Pringles olden day egg beaters.
Maddox thinks we should use the sunlight to cook the pikelets, or a hair dryer (though not anymore as we talked about what makes the hair dryer work).

Do you have any more ideas Room 12?

Amazing writers!

Did you know that Room 12 are amazing writers?

Sophia's Mum and Dad are getting married too!  Congratulations!

Kian likes playing Hide and Seek with his big brother, Qwayan.

Naai knows a thing or two about getting married.  He knows I'll be wearing a white dress, and a ring!

Eita's car is strong and it has a light in front (like fire).

Kaci wrote about me marrying Malcolm.

Makylah likes her watch that goes 'tick tock'.  It's beautiful and it snaps onto her wrist.

Mio shared a beautiful fan from Japan for her news.

Nitika likes her toy.

Oliver likes his book about Space, given to him by his Aunty Katie.

Xavier just loves sharks, especially the ones in New Zealand far away!

Adela is pretty excited I am getting married.
Later in the week I am going to be away for a few days while I am getting married, and enjoying a short honeymoon (notice going home about this on Tuesday).
I will be back on Friday 13th - so let's celebrate by dressing up as pirates!
What a fabulous idea!
