A big catch up!

It has been way too long since I added a post.  Now that I'm all better, I'm ready to keep up to date.

Yesterday it was Cupcake Day to raise funds for the SPCA.  Our wonderful student leaders made YUMMY cupcakes!  Some of us even came to school dressed as an animal!

Alexis makes a very cute cow!

A big welcome to Toby who started school in Room 12.
He is wearing his Angry Birds hat.

What a cheeky smile!
Oliver the tiger!

And another tiger!  Watch out!  Eita is going to pounce!

Levi the golden cat!

Adela, the lovely unicorn!

Look at Maddox!
He looks like the cheeky monkey on his t-shirt!

Xavier is wearing the uniform of his favourite League Team - the Broncoes.

Katie knows how to act like a cat!

Nitika told she was half rabbit, and half puma!

And another cute cat called Mio!
Yesterday one of our maths groups showed me how they could order the numerals to 20.  What a fabulous job they did too!

Soma Cube

We have a Soma Cube in Room 12.  It's a tricky puzzle!

These are the pieces to make the puzzle.

Completed!
Anyone who can complete the puzzle in Room 12 will have their photo published on the blog!

Xavier and Maddox are very happy with their achievement!
They even managed to finish the puzzle 3 times!

Systems

During Terms 3 and 4 Wairakei School will be learning about SYSTEMS (especially in relation to visual art).  Later on we will be inquiring about the system involved in beautifying our school, and Room 12 will be taking on a special project.  Can't wait!

What is a system?  I hear you ask.
A system is a set of rules, procedures or routines needed to complete a task.
Or in child speak: A system is the things you need to do, to get something done.

On Tuesday afternoon we discovered that there are systems involved in drawing.  We used some 'learn to draw' cards to learn how to draw things like penguins, Grinch, mice, dogs, cats, aliens and a lot more.  Each card had a set of instructions on it.  Room 12 loved doing this!  Have a look at how much they are concentrating...

Doesn't Adela's drawing look just like the Grinch?

Reading and gymnastics

We welcome Toby and Zephy who are currently doing their school visits.  Zephy is already 5, so he begins on Monday.  Toby will join us after he turns 5.

Kaci is showing Zephy how to use the activboard.

Tahlia is helping Toby play Spotty Dog.
Today the Eye Patch group had a book called Brown Mouse Gets Some Corn for reading.  I recorded them while they read with me.  Listen to how fast they can read, and how they can self-correct (fix their own mistakes).

Video coming shortly...

We also had our first gymnastics session with Mrs Watson.  What fun!  We learnt to jump over or on a box, land on two feet and bend our knees, walk along the beam, hang upside and make a 'shopping bag' on the bars, and lots more!
