Maths and Music

This morning we had no Kapa Haka so we decided to have a Maths Discovery Time instead.

This afternoon we had music with Mrs Frost.  Room 12 spent some time playing the glockenspiels.

For part of the song Room 12 had to tap the beat up in the air.

Discovery Time on Monday!

Yay!

We love Discovery Time!

Practicing our fine motor skills is always good for us.  This means we are making small movements that use the small muscles of our fingers, toes, lips, tongue and wrists.  So this afternoon we had a cutting and pasting activity to help our fine motor skills.

Mrs Brook drew around our head shadow - that was so much fun to watch!  Then we looked through magazines to find pictures of things we liked.  We cut these out and pasted them onto our head shadow.

Eita looks pretty pleased with his creation!

Such a careful cutter....

Term Three already!

On Monday we had four new students join Room 12.  They have made an excellent start to school already by having a go at new things and making new friends.

Katie and Levi
Harlow and Alexis
Otakaro have changed their Discovery Time to Monday afternoons now.  This is so we can do some writing based on Discovery Times.  Have a look at what we did during our first Discovery Time of the term. Discovery Time 21.7.14 on PhotoPeach

At writing time on Tuesday everyone was pleasantly surprised to find some photos glued into their writing books.  Instead of planning our writing by drawing, we got into our buzz groups and took turns at sharing our pictures with each other.  After this we wrote about what we did.

Adela enjoyed making a butterfly out of tissue paper.
I love how Adela is beginning to write more words by herself, leave finger spaces and write the first sound in tricky words.

This is Katie's second day at school and she wrote two sentences!

Room 12 are learning about measuring length with Miss Gray on a Wednesday.  They measured the length of the classroom using 'bodies'.

How many bodies can you count?

Our Bowls

Over the last two weeks Room 12 have been busy making paper mache bowls.  Have a look!

Beginning to paste newspaper onto our balloons - fun!

Room 12 we fabulous at making sure each piece of paper was smoothly pasted on - icky fingers!

After three sessions of adding layers of paper to our balloons they were ready to cut.
Some of us thought we were making hats!

Painting the outside of our bowls.

Thanks Oliver for giving us some Forestry and Bird magazines to look through.
We found some pictures to stick onto our bowls.

Kian and Makylah enjoyed decorating their bowls with flowers and birds.

Some more decorating.

Don't they look fabulous!

Over the holidays Mrs Brook is going to varnish each bowl.

We've also been learning to say our address this week!
I think by tomorrow everyone in Room 12 will be able to say their address.
This week we've also been using our imaginations to write 'fiction' stories.  Here are a few from today.

Oliver wrote a 6 sentence story!
When I woke up in the morning I was in a batman suit.  I was funny.  I loved the batman suit. I couldn't believe it in the morning.  Toby and Dad laughed at me.  I laughed too.

Tahlia has been working really hard on writing neatly with finger spaces!
I woke up in the morning.  I was a pirate!

Eita wrote a long story today!
My house is a tree.  A dragon is coming to my house.  He blew fire on my house.
