Fabulous last day!

We were lucky enough to have two shows today.

This morning Otakaro had a visit from Ronald McDonald who talked to us about wearing a seatbelt, crossing the road safely, and staying away from the roadside of the footpath.

This afternoon we had the Strike Percussion Group perform to us.  They had all sorts of drums, marimbas, rain machines and lots more!  They were AWESOME!

We had a fabulous effort made for Wacky Wednesday today!

Today we had the lovely Miss Harris teach Room 12, as Miss Gray has gone to London to visit her father.
I want to thank Rebbekah Newlove who has enjoyed her time with Room 12.  She's back to her own school tomorrow!
Here she is doing some 'teacher' work.

Miss Newlove brought her purple violin to show Room 12 yesterday.

Have a great holiday, Miss Newlove!

I hope you all have a fabulous Easter and a well-deserved break.  See you back at school on the 5 May!

We welcome "Miss Newlove" to Room 12.

Here is Miss Newlove playing a game, to reinforce sight words, with Oliver and Joel.

Our writing and using our memory...

We welcome Adela who is visiting today.  She will be starting in Room 12 after the holidays.

This morning we all wrote about one of our classroom puppets.  Have a peek at some fabulous examples of writing!

This afternoon we exercised our brains and tested our memory.  We played a Kim's Game.  Room 12 had one minute to look at a total of 8 items before I covered them up.  Then they had to try and remember each item and draw them on their piece of paper.  Have a look at how hard these children are thinking!!!!

Everyone did so well (much better than I expected too).  Congratulations to Tahlia and Maddox who both remembered 7 out of 8 items each.  Woot! Woot!  Room 12 had so much fun doing this activity they want to try again sometime.  A couple of them said they might have a go at home....watch out!

Bryan and Bobby

On Tuesday we had a visit from Bryan and Bobby.  They taught us how to stay safe, and how to take CARE of our valuables.  Did you know your television, ipad, computer etc have a special serial number on it?

It is a good idea to record these serial numbers somewhere, so if something like a television goes missing you can tell the police it's serial number.  Bryan and Bobby told us that there is a great big room at the police station filled with televisions and computers because they do not know who it belongs to.

Someone made a very MEANINGFUL CONNECTION that it's the same as naming our clothes.  If we found a polar fleece with someone's name in it, then we would know who to give it back to.

Are all of your clothes named?  They should be.

We love Discovery Time!

We absolutely love Discovery Time.  We have lots of activities to improve hand-eye co-ordination, co-operation skills, problem-solving or simply to add to our kids life experiences.

Today children could choose from the following:
1.  Peeling and eating a carrot.
2.  Dressing Barbie Dolls.
3.  Creating a train track.
4.  Construction with boxes and tubes.
5.  Play dough.
6.  Maths/counting.
7.  Origami.
8.  Creating land art.
9.  Cutting out a spiral.
10.  Making something out of lego.
11.  Printmaking.
12.  Chalk drawing.
13.  Singing group (led by Morgan and Caitlyn from Room 5).

We had some parents from Cool Dots and Room 9 come and help.  Parents and other family members are most welcome to come along.  Just let me know and I can give you something to do (I promise it will be easy!).

Earlier today we had a cutting exercise at Reading time.

One of Nitika's goals is to use scissors correctly.
She is doing so well - awesome work Nitika!

Xavier would have to be one of the most HELPFUL people I have ever known!
Here he is helping Kian.

Tents and Dads!

Our poem of the week is about different kinds of 'houses'.  We brainstormed a few different houses - hives, hills, houses, cabins, kennels, boxes, cages, holes and tents!  So this afternoon we partnered up with our Room 5 buddies and put up tents!  Wow!  Everyone had so much fun they want to do it again.  We might have to as only one group managed to get their tent up in time - watch the movie to find out which group it was.

A big thanks to Morgan from Room 5 who took the photos.

Room 12 wrote about their Dad's this morning using the word 'can'.  I couldn't decide which story to share because they were all so very good....so here are ALL of them.  It looks like we have some pretty clever Dad's out there too!

I can't wait to see Eita tomorrow too.  He doesn't know it yet.....but his Dad is flying over from Japan today.  Eita will be VERY VERY excited!  We all know that Eita has a big smile, but I am thinking he will have a HUMUNGOUS smile tomorrow!!!

Makylah - My Daddy can paint on the wall.  He can paint my room.

Oliver - My Dad can make pikelets.  They are yummy.

Maddox - My Dad can fix the roof.  He is clever.  He doesn't fall off.  He uses a hammer.

Xavier - My Dad can play rugby and he can run.

Eita - My Dad can clean the house.

Nitika - My Dad can make a cake.

Kaci - My Dad can paint buildings and houses.

Mio - My Dad can cook sausages.
