Room 12 now have their own user-name and password for our school website! This means that Room 12 can message other children and teachers, leave comments on other class spaces, and click on links to online games and activities.
Today we joined our buddy class (Room 5) and our buddies taught us how to log on, check our messages and some of us even managed to put a picture onto our profile! What fun!
Parents - I have emailed you your child's user-name and password...so Room 12 can even check the website from home! Next term parents will be allowed to have their own user-name and password too...how exciting!

Our Show!
Custom Glitter Text
Tonight we had our Move n Groove Night - what a fabulous night it was too!
A huge thank you to all the children who arrived ready to perform. They had a terrific attitude and I'm sure the parents loved watching them.
Lachie and Abigail sure do look excited about their upcoming Teddy Bear dance! |
Balin and Zan might be a little bit nervous...? We know that being a little nervous is good - it helps us do our best! |
Not the best photo...here is Miss O'Neill ready for the show! |
I will upload our other dances later...am having trouble uploading them at the moment.

Snow!
Over the last few days we've all been expecting the worst snow in twenty years...only for the weather warning to be lifted.
However, this morning Room 12 was treated to a view of some white stuff! We were in the middle of reading our poem of the week, and I noticed that not one child was focussed on our poem...they were looking towards the window at the giant snowflakes falling on our playground. I said "okay...of you go. Have a look out the window". They were so excited!
I had to take a photo...how cute they all looked!
Stay warm everyone...more cold weather to come apparently.

Limericks
One of our writing groups (The Butterflies) are learning how to write limericks. We've learnt that limericks are a type of poem. They have 5 lines and usually begin with the words There once was a...
We have also been looking at the rhyming pattern in a limerick. We discovered that lines 1, 2 and 5 all rhyme, and so do lines 3 and 4. This means they have a rhyming pattern of AABBA. Aren't we clever?
Today we finished our first limerick. What do you think?
There once was a boy called Zack
Who was wearing black
He was wearing a frown
He was going to town
Because he had a sore back

Of course I had to have a go too. Here is this week's poem of the week for Room 12:
There was a teacher called Miss O'Neill
She liked to drive her red automobile
The tyres were flat!
She was as mad as a bat!
Where will she find another wheel?

Cleaning our teeth!
Welcome back, Miss Byrne! We happy that you feel a bit better!
Today Miss Byrne started to teach Room 12 about keeping our teeth clean. Everyone is bringing home a chart so they can record when they brush their teeth (hopefully every morning and every night!). The chart has 4 weeks on it, but seeing it is Miss Byrne's last week with Room 12 next week...we're asking Room 12 to bring their chart back after a week...there will be a prize!
Here's a wee video to help us clean our teeth properly! Zan pointed out that we shouldn't rinse our mouth when we brush our teeth...just spit!

Writing
Today for writing we pretended that it would be our turn to cook tea tonight. It made us very hungry!
Miss O'Neill typed our stories, then we picked an image to go with our stories.

Treasure Maps
We have been learning about the culture of pirates, so we made treasure maps! Don't they look fabulous? These are on display in the foyer at the office.
Tomorrow we are going to find out why pirates had to bury their treasure...do you know why?

Captain Feathersword
This is the music Room 12 are performing one of their dances to at our Otakaro Move n Groove Night. I am wondering if anyone has the full song on CD perhaps? Please let me know if you have.
Thank you.

Oral Language
Every Friday Room 12 are able to bring something to school to share for news. At news time we are practicing the following:
1. Taking turns at speaking.
2. Speaking with a clear voice, and making our news INTERESTING.
3. Listening to the news by keeping our hands still and looking at the speaker.
4. Respond with an interesting question or comment.
Room 12 are getting quite good!
Lachie was especially happy to share news this time - it was his 6th birthday! Happy Birthday Lachie!

Miss O'Neill is Back!
I've been sick with a chest infection and have been away on and off for the last 2 weeks...it is so good to be back! What a terrific day we had today too!
Alex, Toby and Eniitan showed me how fast they could recognise the letters of the alphabet...have a look at this video...

Of course, while I have been away, Room 12 have been in the VERY capable hands of Miss Byrne. Here they are reading their poem of the week (please excuse the terrible quality...yes that was me!).
Thanks to those of you who are leaving comments...we love reading them!

Mr Bojangles trip to Auckland with Joshua
Joshua and Penny took a trip to Auckland for Queen's Birthday weekend...so Mr Bojangles decided to tag along too! Luckily Mr Bojangles chose to go home with Joshua on Thursday...
It looks like the whole family had a fun packed weekend. Room 12 can't wait to hear more about it when Joshua and Penny return.
